Empowered Women, Empower Women

Happy Women’s Month! The 10th Filipina Entrepreneurship Summit by Go Negosyo celebrated women empowerment through awarding 20 Inspiring Filipina Entrepreneurs who have greatly contributed and excelled in their respective fields. An inspiring Filipina may or may not have come from humble beginnings, but must embody the following characteristics: Passionate, positive, and inspiring. She must have an innovative business model and must have the ability to care for her community through livelihood projects and entrepreneurship advocacy.  Held last March 6 at the World Trade Centre, the summit was attended by more than 15,000 participants composed of entrepreneurs, advocates and students. There was a Filipina Mentor ME Cafe at Halls A and B for a one-on-one mentoring session with mentors from various sectors covering topics such as entering a business, operating smoothly, managing people, managing your funds, agripreneurship, online tools for money and market, marketing, branding, franchising, funding and borrowing.

Here are some insights and advices from champion women entrepreneurs from the keynote forums. Tessie Sy-Coson, Vice Chair of SM Investments, shared “The best mentor is pressure. It’s true you can learn from everyone but the mentor I really look up to is my father.”. Dra. Vicki Belo of Belo Medical Group revealed her motivation is having God as her partner and that you have to like what you are doing so it won’t feel like you are working. Georgina Wilson-Burnand of Sunnies Studios shared that experience has been her best teacher. When you start small, each milestone means so much more. Anne Curtis Smith-Heusaff stated it is very important to find someone who will discipline you and guide you in your entrepreneurial journey.

Out of 100 aspiring nominees, our very own Ms. Edilee Omoyon of Milea Bath and Body and Milea Bee Farm was awarded for her efforts in fostering sustainable agritourism and organic farming. Starting her business because of her son’s skin condition, she studied about organic products and started manufacturing products like organic soaps, shampoos, and balms made out of real honey sourced from Milea Bee Farm. This recognition has inspired us to be even more mindful of our environment, our suppliers, and most especially our customers.

Yes, WOMEN CAN! #GoFilipina It is our fervent desire that more and more Filipino women will be agents of change, of inspiration and of positivity!
